Good morning. Twenty mornings of instruments, and nowhere that they all get read together.
Growth.
The Growth Operating Review
Without opening a dashboard, say what your growth flows did last month, whether your newest cohort's retention curve is flattening higher or lower than the one before it, and what the last thousand dollars into your best channel bought. You can't — and almost nobody can, because those numbers live in five tools owned by four people. That isn't a memory problem. It's the page you've never built.
Eighteen mornings ago you met the man who asks how disappointed your users would be. In 2017 Sean Ellis and Morgan Brown published Hacking Growth, and its real contribution isn't a tactic — it's a cadence. Growth, they argue, is not a campaign a marketing department runs. It's a cross-functional team working one fixed loop on a fixed clock — analyse the data, generate ideas, prioritise them, test, begin again — at a tempo measured in tests per week rather than initiatives per quarter. Day 50 already made the case for a standing page over a dashboard; this is that page, pointed at the engine. What it assembles is everything the last twenty mornings handed you one at a time: the two identities and their flows, the defection rate and the cause behind it, net revenue retention on a frozen cohort, the cohort curve, the activation milestone, the very-disappointed score, the loop, its leverage point and whether it is still turning, what a channel costs at the margin, and the experiment log. Read separately, each answers a narrow question. Read in a fixed order on one page, they answer the only one that matters — is the engine turning under its own power yet, or is it still being pushed.
